Willowjack is a collaboration between Irish songwriters and long-time friends Hugh Doolan and Donal Byrne, combining a wide range of musical influences from rock and pop to soulful acoustic melodies with a good smattering of everything in between. Make sure to watch the video for Sad and Blue on YouTube.
Donal Byrne has been a songwriter since his teens. During this time, Donal has played support to such artists as Primal Scream and Bjork. He spent the past 10 years touring venues and festivals, writing and recording songs in Germany and Portugal. His songs are generally Poetic Pop, drawn from life experiences and images of the world that surrounds us. He is back living in Dublin and continues to write and record music, performing live regularly in venues around the country.
Hugh Doolan has been writing songs for a long time and now also composes for film, with latest project 'Bernadette: Notes on a Political Journey', winning an IFTA (Irish equivalent of an Oscar) for best documentary. In the past he has supported Christy Moore in Berlin, toured all over Italy and beyond, and even pitched his songs to the likes of Kylie Minogue. Hugh has just finished original music for yet more film projects and played guitar on some great cross-genre online collaborations that will soon showcase on Soundcloud, where you'll find most of Hugh's music. He will continue to pour energy into Willowjack and make it grow beyond the initial single offering of the amazing Sad and Blue, written when he was 22.
