About ZOË

Zoë Straub was born into a family of musicians and was introduced to Mozart’s Magic Flute at a young age by her parents, sparking her love for opera. Growing up, she immersed herself in the rich history of musical theatre, developing a passion for iconic shows like “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Cats,” and “Les Miserables.”

Already a successful singer-songwriter and actress, Zoë auditioned for a lead role in a major musical in early 2023 but narrowly missed out on the part in the final round. It was then that she decided to pursue her long-held dream of creating her own musical. Drawing inspiration from her school days, she chose the legendary medieval tale of the “Nibelungenlied” as her subject matter, aiming to infuse its timeless themes of love, betrayal, heroism, and vengeance into a modern musical context.

Over the course of a year, Zoë composed 20 songs for her musical, titled EPOS, blending her diverse musical influences, from epic ballads with lush orchestral arrangements to contemporary beats and Beatles-inspired melodies. The musical also incorporates rock elements, featuring distorted electric guitars and powerful drums, contrasted with quieter moments of piano and strings reminiscent of the 1960s, all carefully crafted to enhance the emotional journey of the story.

Zoë has assembled a team of top-tier talent, including an internationally renowned arranger and a stellar cast from the German-speaking musical world, to bring her vision to life.

Now, you have the opportunity to join Zoë on her journey. Support her next step by participating in the workshop and reading on August 30th and 31st, 2024. The workshop aims to inspire producers to bring EPOS to major theatres across German-speaking countries and to gain valuable feedback on how to further refine the production for a wide audience.

Looking forward to welcoming you on board!
